About Fog Computing

  • Fog computing is a system-level horizontal architecture that distributes resources and services of computing, storage, control and networking anywhere along the continuum from Cloud to Things.
    By extending the cloud to be closer to the things that produce and act on IoT data, fog enables latency sensitive computing to be performed in proximity to the sensors, resulting in more efficient network bandwidth and more functional and efficient IoT solutions. Fog computing also offers greater business agility through deeper and faster insights, increased security and lower operating expenses.


  • Shanghai Institute of Fog Computing Technology (SHIFT), which is a joint lab between ShanghaiTech University and Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, to lead the following research areas in fog computing and networks. 

    - Fog computing architecture and theory
    - Big data processing in fog computing
    - Security in fog computing
    - Low-power sensors for fog computing
    - Fog computing for Internet-of-Things (IoT)
    - Next-generation communication with fog computing
    - Fog computing test-beds
    - etc.

  • Detailed Instructions:

    - From Pudong International Airport (both the Terminal 1 and Terminal 2), take Shanghai Metro Line 2 (the green line in the map) directly to the Zhangjiang High Technology Park station.
    - From Hongqiao International Airport Terminal 1, firstly take Shanghai Metro Line 10 (the purple line in the map) to East Nanjing Road Station, and then transfer to Shanghai Metro Line 2 (the green line in the map) to the Zhangjiang High Technology Park station.
    - After your arrive at the Zhangjiang High Technology Park station, walk out from the No. 2 exit turn right (Keyuan Road) and then walk straight for 3 minutes to find the shuttle Bus to ShanghaiTech University (with ShanghaiTech University /SSIST).
